Bill Egbers was a special young man who tragically lost his life in 1981 at the age of 15 in an automobile accident. There are so many reasons that those who knew Bill chose to honor this young man by hosting an invitational golf tournament for high school golfers in the State of Washington. Bill embodied so many great qualities, that many of his age would not yet understand. Bill was a skilled golfer, but even more importantly he was an outstanding individual of strong character and a friendly demeanor. Bill learned to play golf at Skagit Golf & Country Club. His natural talent was combined with a competitive desire to be a winner. Many of us know that golf can often times seem self-defeating...frustrating at the least. Bill knew those frustrations of having a par putt lip out, losing a ball in the woods, or hitting it in the pond! Yet, when faced with adversity, Bill would always meet this challenge head on with an optimistic outlook and be heard saying "I will be better", and always with a smile on his face.
