BILL EGBERS MEMORIAL GOLF SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS- APRIL 25, 2025
OVERVIEW:
Bill Egbers was a special young man who tragically lost his life in 1981 at the age of 15 in an automobile accident. There are so many reasons that those who knew Bill chose to honor this young man by hosting an invitational golf tournament for high school golfers in the State of Washington. Bill embodied so many great qualities, that many of his age would not yet understand. Bill was a skilled golfer, but even more importantly he was an outstanding individual of strong character and a friendly demeanor. Bill learned to play golf at Skagit Golf & Country Club. His natural talent was combined with a competitive desire to be a winner. Many of us know that golf can often times seem self-defeating…frustrating at the least. Bill knew those frustrations of having a par putt lip out or losing a ball in the woods or hitting it in the pond! Yet, when faced with adversity, Bill would always meet this challenge head on with an optimistic outlook and be heard saying “I will be better” and always with a smile on his face.
While being invited to participate in this prestigious golf tournament is an honor in and of itself, the Egbers Golf Tournament is pleased to be able to offer scholarships to high school girls and boys golf team seniors. There will be two scholarships awarded, one to a Senior who attends a high school or is home schooled in Skagit, Whatcom, or Island Counties, and the second to a Senior who attends high school or home-schooled outside of these three counties. Applicants do not need to participate in the tournament to be eligible to apply.
Requirements are that the applicant must complete the scholarship application form and MUST provide at least one letter of reference from a Coach, Teacher, Civic Leader or Religious Leader.
The reference letter must describe the applicant as to the following traits: Commitment; Team Player; Competitiveness; Love of Life; Respect for others; Self-confidence.
We are very grateful to all our donors who make this tournament happen and to these same donors for providing funding for these scholarships. A special thank you goes out to Dan Boffey/Skagit Transportation and to Michael Bonds/Charles Schwab for their contributions to the tournament and to scholarship funding.
APPLICATIONS MAY BE EMAILED TO: Atmartin1@comcast.net; or mailed to Andrea Martin at 12329 11th Tee Lane, Burlington, WA 98233 or left with Craig Welty at Skagit Golf and Country Club. Deadline for applications this year is April 25, 2025.
